Julie Choi with a rescued cat in Seoul

Independent cat rescuer · Seoul, South Korea

Meet Julie Choi, the person behind YongsanCats.

Julie is an independent cat rescuer in Seoul. Through YongsanCats, she works with local caregivers, veterinarians and foster families to help cats affected by redevelopment reach safety, receive care and find homes.

A rescue story that began with two kittens

In her interview with Maria’s Mutts & Stuff, Julie describes how caring for two kittens she encountered on a snowy day led her to help neighborhood cats. The work grew into rescue and ongoing care for cats affected by redevelopment.

YongsanCats is a community around that work: caregivers who know the cats, veterinarians who treat them, fosters and adopters who open their homes, and supporters who help care continue.

Street cats in changing neighborhoods

In Bogwang-dong, Hannam-dong and other redevelopment areas of Seoul, cats can lose familiar feeding places and shelter. Julie works with local caregivers who know the cats and their daily routines.

From rescue to fostering and adoption

Rescue continues through veterinary treatment, recovery, stable foster care and suitable adoptive homes. Julie works with veterinarians, foster families and adopters to keep that care connected.

Donations that sustain care

Support helps with food, litter, transport and veterinary treatment. Current cat profiles and the support page explain the needs people can help with now.
